"People who own property feel a sense of ownership in their future and their society. They study, save, work, strive, and vote. People trapped in a culture of tenancy do not."  - Henry Louis Gates, Jr.

As a social enterprise, Los Compas Coffee seeks to positively impact transition age opportunity youth by providing them educational opportunities to learn about small business entrepreneurship and develop strong transferable soft skills.

This endeavor is based on the belief that developing an entrepreneurial mindset, small business know-how, and sense of ownership raises a young person's self-esteem and economic agency, and provides them with a pathway out of poverty.

According to a 2022 article by CNBC, 60% of teens want to launch their own businesses. While entrepreneurship education is widely available through select CTE programs and at the college level, opportunity youth from underserved communities lack access.

Los Compas is tackling this inequity in the Inland Empire by partnering with schools and providing entrepreneurship education to the students who need it most. Popular workshops include:

  • Developing an Entrepreneurial Mindset
  • Small Business Discovery, Design, and Planning
  • Business Branding, Marketing, and Community Building
  • Crafting a Strong Personal Narrative and Professional Vision
